Julia Roberts: Most beautiful woman

FOR the fifth time, which is a record, Julia Roberts was named People magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman in the World. Roberts has not been in the limelight in the last five years—doing an average of just one movie a year—but her beauty cannot be hidden.

Roberts is also the perfect example of beauty defying age. She turns 50 this October.

But beauty is an issue that Roberts discusses carefully with her children with husband Daniel Moder: 12-year-old twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter and 10-year-old Henry Daniel.

“It’s an interesting navigation because you don’t want to mess them up. You don’t want to make them aware of something that was better that they weren’t aware of,” Roberts told People magazine editor-in-chief Jess Cagle.

“I think as long as everybody smells good and has a smile on their face, that’s a beauty regimen!” said the Oscar-winning actress known for her smile.

“They all have a very keen sense of humor. They all have a sort of different style of humor, but I do think they are all pretty funny, and I really hope they get that from me because that’s what I tell everybody,” Roberts said of her children.

Roberts was the second person to receive the title of Most Beautiful Person in the World. She received the title in 1991, fresh from the box-office success of her 1990 films Flatliners and Pretty Woman.

The title was first given to Michelle Pfeiffer in 1990. Back then, the title was given to either a male or female celebrity. Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio were bestowed the title respectively from 1996 to 1998.

In 2006, the title was renamed to Most Beautiful Woman in the World. The annual issue features celebrities considered the most beautiful and most prominent for that year. The woman who graces the cover is considered the Most Beautiful Woman in the World, the counterpart to another popular People magazine list: Sexiest Man Alive, the title that currently belongs to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Roberts is the record holder for most “most beautiful” covers. She was also named the most beautiful in 2000, 2005 and 2010.

Roberts' debut feature was a direct-to-video movie called Firehouse in 1987. She then appeared in the coming-of-age film Mystic Pizza where she gained Hollywood’s attention. While the film was not a box-office success, it had a cult following. It was also when she met then-unknown Matt Damon who had a minor role in the film.

Her career skyrocketed after that starring in one hit after another: Steel Magnolias (1989), Pretty Woman and Flatliners (1990), Sleeping with the Enemy, Dying Young and Hook (1991).

Roberts won an Oscar for her eponymous role in Erin Brokovich in 2000. She had three other Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress in 1989 (Steel Magnolias) and 2013 (August: Osage County) and Best Actress for Pretty Woman.

Her most recent project was Smurfs: The Lost Village, where she voiced Smurf Willow. Roberts will soon be seen in Wonder with Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay.
