THE Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Davao Region reported that over a million voter's identification cards remain unclaimed in Davao Region as of March this year.
Comelec-Davao regional director lawyer Remlane Tambuang is urging the 1,193,816 voters to claim the identification cards in their respective district offices at Ramon Magsaysay Avenue here.
Data showed that there are 410,167 unclaimed cards in January; 400,097 in February, and 383,552 in March.
There are still 551,628 IDs available for claiming in Davao City--88,576 in the first district; 57,215 in the second district; and 38,756 in the third district.
Meanwhile, there are a total of 113,266 IDs available for claim in Davao del Sur; 73,413 in Davao Occidental; 234,503 in Davao del Norte; 164,110 in Compostela Valley; and 56,896 in Davao Oriental.
"We are calling all voters to visit the district offices of the Comelec and ask whether your identification card is already good for claim. Our voter's ID can use it for various purposes since it is issued by the government," Tambuang said.
He said the cards will no longer be released to the barangay for safety purposes. He added that the Comelec will also not notify the voters if their IDs are available for pickup.
Comelec-Davao has so far released 13,414 identification cards since January this year.
