Misamis Oriental tax collection up by 49% in 2016

THE total tax collection of Misamis Oriental Provincial Government surged up by 49.84 percent from P1.3 billion in 2015 to P1.4 billion in 2016.

Ronald James Violon, acting Provincial Treasurer said the increase is attributed to the local revenues such as in business and property taxes, fees and charges from the province's economic enterprises, and the external revenues including the internal revenue allotment and the excise taxes.

Records showed that real property tax (RPT) in 2015 was pegged at P108.8 million and jumped to P163.9 million in 2016 while other fees and charges increased from P9 million in 2015 to P12 million in 2016.

Business taxes slightly decreased from P22.4 million in 2015 to P17.9 million in 2016 as well as the province's income from economic enterprise which was recorded at P106 million in 2015 and sunk to P88 million in 2016.

The province also collected about P200 million excise tax in 2015 and has leaped to P700 million in 2016.

The figure is expected to increase this year as it is set to receive a share of the government's collection from Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Company (PMFTC) Inc., the leading tobacco company in the country worth P700 million.

According to the data, the province collected about P5 million RPT from Misamis Oriental Rural Electric Service Cooperative (Moresco I) while another P6.6 million was collected from Moresco II.

Steag State Power Inc. has paid P20 million and Globe with P17 million.

Violon commends his real estate appraiser Engineer Marlyn Legaspi for her efforts that resulted to the substantial increase in collections for the period.

Legaspi, who also heads the province's Revenue Mobilization, said he conducts several tax conferences with taxpayers and treasury officers in the 23 municipalities of Misamis Oriental.

Provincial Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano lauded the treasury office for its efficiency in collecting taxes that are rightful for the province.

Emano said the total collection will be used in the delivery of basic services for the Misamisnons.
