P294M set for release to typhoon victims in Cordillera

THE DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will be releasing P294,505,000 for those affected by Super Typhoon Lawin (Haima) in 2016.

The funds is a second tranche of assistance with a total of P78,485,000 given to the province of Abra; P55,045,00 for Apayao; P8,255,00 for Benguet; P4,775,000 for Ifugao; P140,255,000 will be given to Kalinga; and P7,690,000 released to the Mountain Province.

DSWD-CAR Director Janet Armas said 3,289 houses were destroyed and 42,592 were damaged by the typhoon that hit the country in October 2016.

"The families who have damaged houses need now the assistance from us that is why we have prepared faster this process so that we can release at the earliest possible time the assistance to them," Armas said.

Earlier, the DSWD released the initial fund of P5,000 each to the residents with partially or totally damaged homes.

For the second batch, those who have partially damaged houses will be receiving the additional P5,000 and for those who have totally damaged houses will be receiving the additional P25, 000.

"We will be having a meeting with Land Bank to see how we can release the fund hopefully through the machine so that they can easily access since giving the assistance to them in cash is not easy for us. We hope all the beneficiaries will be having their cards for them to receive the assistance easier," Armas said.

Armas assured they will not be prolonging the giving of assistance to the beneficiaries and hopes all the process will go smooth.

The assistance, will help the victims to rebuild structures destroyed by one of the strongest typhoons in the country. (Ian Jefrey Addatu)
