Catching waves in Dahican

DAHICAN in Mati City is becoming everyone's favorite as it steals the spotlight from common summer destinations in the Davao Region.

Blessed with the cool blue waters and huge waves, the seven kilometer white sand beach lures tourists, skimboarders, surfers all year round. In fact it already has for the past years and its beauty has been attractive not only to Filipinos but to foreigners as well. Some of them grew closer to the locals as they've been visiting the beach like it's a jeepney-ride away.

It has staged several skimboarding competitions before; thus, dubbed as the Philippine's Skimboarding Capital.

Being Visit Davao Fun Sale (VDFS) 2017's newest feature, the city hosts its flagship events for the summer.

VDFS, in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Local Government of Mati, the First Amihan National Skimboarding Competition and Ultimate Frisbee Invitational Tournament were a success as thousands came to witness a show off of skills by the athletes.

Mati City pride Sonny Boy "Yogi" Aporbo, who clinched the 10th International Skimming Competition 2016 in Pesisirnan Pantai Tanjung Tokong in Malaysia, pulled off a series of switch drop and 360 big spin to convince judges Roderick Bazar of Leyte, Derrick Mojica of Manila and Peter Pagar of Iligan.

Davao City Chillside, on the other hand, posted two straight victories at the start of the Ultimate Frisbee Challenge at the Menzi Beach Park & Campsite on Saturday.

There's definitely, a lot that's going on in the city right now and you can brace yourself for more as the National Invitational Beach Volleyball Tournament slated on May 19 to 21, 2017 at Menzi Beach Park & Campsite, is expected to gather 10 local teams and 2 teams from Manila.

Going there for vacation doesn't only mean relaxation but immersing in the locals' lifestyle that's deeply inclined with the sea. And yep, it's worth the penny and the long ride!
