Cesafi to adjust eligibility in line with K-12 program

THE Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) is adjusting its eligibility rule with its the high school players, especially to schools who has adopted the K-12 program.

Cesafi commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy Jr. told Sun.Star Cebu that he is recommending to the board to update its high school eligibility rule to adjust to the K-12 program in which the University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department and the Don Bosco Technological Center are adopting.

“The board has already approved that if a player, who is enrolled in either Grade 11 or Grade 12 are still qualified to play as long as they are not over 18 years old. But what I want right now is the amendment of the rule that allows players to play only for four years,” Tiukinhoy said.

Under the old rule, high school players are allowed only to play within five years after their elementary graduation and a four playing years.

Since the new school program is now six years from the Grades 7 to 10, plus the Grades 11 and 12, Cesafi is going to amend the rules, especially now that USC-BED and Don Bosco have students enrolled now on its Grade 11 curriculum.

Meanwhile, the long-time Cesafi Commissioner also sees that in 2018, no more foreign players will be allowed to play in the league.

Also, Cesafi is in negotiation with the Viva Entertainment and Production for the coverage of the 15th regular season that will open on Aug. 1.
