CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The San Fernando City Government, through its City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro), conducted over the weekend cleanup drives on its waterways with the theme “Pagkalinga sa Kalikasan at Kapaligiran, Kaligtasan ng Buhay ay Makakamtan" in line with the observance of International Earth Day.
All major waterways of this city were cleaned by personnel from the City Government headed by Mayor Edwin Santiago.
Other participants are from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Department of Public Works and Highways, academe sector, and other civic society groups.
The operation was held in areas which include portions of San Fernando River (Baluyut Bridge), Baritan Creek, Sta. Teresita Creek (along MacArthur Highway), Magdalena Creek, Dolores Creek, Sampaloc Creek, and Sto. Niño.
Cenro Chief Engineer Anele David said the activity is conducted in the city every year. She explained that the cleanup drive aims to help and save the environment.
“Our aim is to save the environment and help it. It [clean-up drive] is held regularly in preparation for the rainy season. We ensure that all creeks are in good condition. We see to it that they won’t overflow or get clogged,” she said.
For his part, Santiago said that environmental protection and preservation are among the top priority programs of his administration.
“Having a clean and peaceful city will lead us to further development,” said Santiago.
