THE Perlas Pilipinas cage belles and lady spikers of the Philippine women’s volleyball team axed wins in Day 6 of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2015 in Singapore yesterday.
Perlas Pilipinas clinched its second win in three outings after defeating Malaysia, 74-63, at the OCBC Arena Hall 1.
Allana May Lim sparked Perlas Pilipinas with the game-high 20 points while Merenciana Arayi chipped in 15 after shooting four of six from three-point land. Cindy Resultay also added 15 in the win.
Malaysia opened up a five-point lead, 18-13, after the first quarter but Sinag Pilipinas managed to even the score up at 30-all by the end of the first half. Philippines then pulled away in the second half outscoring Malaysia, 21-19, in third and 23-14 in final canto.
Perlas Pilipinas has then improved its win-loss record to 2-1 in Group G coming off a 100-55 rout over Vietnam after bowing to Thailand, 57-62, in their first game.
Indonesia is up next for Perlas Pilipinas as they square off Friday.
Over at the OCBC Arena Hall 2, the Philippine women’s volleyball team whipped Malaysia in three sets , 25-15, 25-18, 25-16, for its first win in two games in Pool B.
The Malaysian squad found a difficult time stopping the tandem of Alyssa Valdez and Aleona Santiago who combined for a total of 21 kills. Rachel Anne Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga each added seven bombers.
Philippines capitalized on Malaysia’s 29 total errors to win each set.
While the Malaysian squad blocked more kill attempts from the Philippines, the latter remained relentless after converting a total of 40 spikes.
With the victory, the Filipino volleybelles got a much-needed morale boost after losing big in their opening game against Indonesia, 0-3.
Philippines will play Vietnam on Saturday.
