EARL Rhay Mantilla and Irish Yngayo copped titles in the 14th Acas Palero Moulic (APM) Standard Chess Tournament Sunday at the Damosa Market Basket in Lanang, Davao City.
University of Mindanao (UM) bet Mantilla scored a total of 5.5 points in the six-round Swiss System Format chessfest to rule division A over Engr. Allan Diez (5.0), Alexander Clavite (4.5), Sherwin Orbeta (4.5) and Bhing Joel Gimony (4.0) who took the next four spots.
Mantill areceived P2,500 and a medal while the next four placers claimed P1,000, P750, P500 and P400.
Yngayo of the Davao Central College (DCC), for her part, secured the division B crown after tallying a total of 5.5 points to prevail over next two placers Aliyah Rae Lumangtad (4.5) and Queen Peralta (4.5).
Yngayo took home P1,500 and a medal while Lumangtad got P700 and Peralta settled for 500.
Special awards were given to Ella Grace Moulic (division A top female), Kurt John Placencia (division A top junior), Wesley Jovan Magbanua (division B boys top under 13), Samanthan Umayan (division B girls top under 13), Caerel Shane Mantilla (dvision B girls top under 10), Miles Manligoy (division B boys top under 10) and Vlademir Orbeta (division B boys top under 8).
The next APM Standard Tournament is set on April 29 to 30 at Damosa Market Basket.
