Pamintuan named ‘Gawad Parangal’ most outstanding mayor

ANGELES CITY -- Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan was conferred by the Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines, Incorporated (ALSWDOPI) with the 2017 Gawad Parangal Most Outstanding Local Chief Executive of the Philippines for social services.

The award was formally received by Pamintuan during the 21st ALSWDOPI National Convention and General Assembly held April 26, at the SMX Center in Davao City.

The said recognition is given to local chief executives in the country who have excelled in the implementation of their social welfare and development programs.

“Our administration has been championing the implementation of the city’s social work endeavors for the past years. It has been our flagship program when we took office in 2010,” said Pamintuan.

“This recognition will inspire not only me but also our employees in the local government, who have been tirelessly supporting our frontline services ever since. I offer this award to all our social workers who have shown dedication and staunch adherence to their mandates,” the mayor added.

Pamintuan’s comprehensive 8-point platform of governance, known as the Contract with the Angeleños (CWA), was seen as an important component in his vying for the said award.

Among Pamintuan’s notable projects were the establishment of MediKalinga satellite surgical center, the modernization of the city’s public hospital, and the establishment of the first public college and public cemetery in the city.

The city’s founding of the first publicly-owned renal care center, intensive cardiac care unit, and chemotherapy infusion unit in the region, also garnered appreciative nods on top of the steadfast execution of national programs implemented by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

The establishment of the Gender and Development Office (GAD) as a separate government agency to cater on the needs of women and children in conflict with the law, was also cited as an important component.

“We are more than ready to establish many more “firsts” in terms of governance. Soon, we will open our very own command center to intensify our peace and order, and surveillance procedures. The facility will be a great help in protecting our people’s rights to safety and security,” Pamintuan added.

Pamintuan was joined by Gawad Parangal 2017 Committee Chairperson Florita Lachica and ALSWDOPI National President Betty Fangasan during the awarding rites.

Other awardees include Governors David Suarez and Daisy Avance-Fuentes of the provinces of Quezon and South Cotabato, respectively; and city mayors Mauricio Domogan of Baguio City and Christian Natividad of Malolos.
