Jake Cuenca relishes being a triathlete

JAKE Cuenca revealed his recent bike accident did not discourage him to become a triathlete.

Last month, the Kapamilya actor figured in a minor biking mishap while training at the Mall of Asia area in Pasay City.

He was training for a triathlon and was on a bike when a truck in front of him suddenly stopped. He failed to press on the break and crashed on the vehicle.

Cuenca suffered two broken bones on his hands and had a few stitches on his chin.

In an interview with the actor during the press launch of "Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin," his newest teleserye with Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, he said that he’s recovering well.

He added that he is just waiting for the clearance from his doctor so that he could start training again.

Cuenca said the accident motivated him to focus more on the sport.

"After nun incident mas nagutom ako lalo. Yung injury na ito, yung downtime, it has motivated me to be better and stronger when I come back. Yun din naman yung exciting sa triathlon yung konting element ng danger. Yun ang thrill ride.”

He's gearing up for a triathlon event next Sunday in Subic, Zambales.

Cuenca is also scheduled to participate in two duathlon (cycling and running) events with Chiu and Anderson next month.

The actor said his main goal now is to reach the podium.

"Gusto kong mag podium finish and that's my biggest goal and I'm getting closer. For me, nararamdaman ko na eh, nalalasahan ko na kaya kahit nabali yung kamay ko, training pa rin."

Cuenca also explained that triathlon also helps him to be in the zone while working on his character in the new series.

"Iba din yung confidence lalo na pag nag training ako tapos pupunta sa set, nararamdaman ko yung character ko."

"Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin" is slated for television release on May 1, before "It's Showtime" on ABS-CBN. (SunStar Philippines)
