Whirlwind hurts 5, topples houses in San Enrique

FIVE persons were injured, one of them a minor, when a whirlwind or “ipo-ipo” hit their houses at Barangay Batuan, San Enrique, Negros Occidental late Wednesday afternoon.

Police identified those injured as Aida Tolentino, 70; Irene Timtim, 37; Nizel Sinarillos, 40; Angel Tolentino, 79; and Aida’s five-year-old granddaughter.

Inspector Raymundo Franco, public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Office (Noppo), said the 70-year-old woman and her granddaughter were brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

They were hit by a parked motorcycle that moved towards them due to strong winds.

The whirlwind damaged two houses, pig pens, and banana trees.

Mayor Mario Magno said financial assistance will be extended by the municipal government to those whose properties were damaged by the whirlwind.(MAP/TDE)
