BPO leads white-collar jobs in Bacolod, NIR – report

THE business process outsourcing (BPO) industry is the leading provider of white-collar jobs in Bacolod City, according to The 2017 JobStreet.com Bacolod Job Trends Report.

Eileen Camarillo-Go, hirer marketing manager of JobStreet.Com Philippines, presented the Bacolod Job Trends and Salary Report, in a media briefing held at Metro Inn Friday.

Figures showed the BPO sector employs 40 percent of the total workers among the Top 10 industries in Bacolod.

BPO is followed by retail at eight percent; manufacturing at six percent; and banking and real estate, both at five percent.

Advertising and marketing, wholesale trading, and hotel and hospitality industries have three percent each. Both the transportation and logistics, and food and beverage have two percent, respectively.

Other job providers have a combined employment share of 26 percent.

The 10 hottest specializations employed by the BPO industry in Negros Island Region and Western Visayas are costumer service, network and database administration, technical and helpdesk support, telesales and telemarketing, and nursing.

Other leading specializations include human resource, clerical and administrative support, electronics and communications engineering, general and cost accounting, and marketing and business development.

The JobStreet.com Philippines report also showed that BPO jobs in Bacolod City are not just concentrated on customer service specialists.

The industry has also been hiring a diverse mix of employees, particularly in nursing, engineering, accounting and marketing, it added.

The Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communication Technology (BNEFIT) has drafted a six-year development roadmap for information and communication technology (ICT) and BPO industry, targeting at least 30,000 more IT-related jobs in Negros Occidental by 2022 in addition to its current workforce of about 30,000.

BNEFIT said more than 60 percent of these new jobs will come from the non-voice sector especially software development and animation.

It also recognized the depleting sources of industry talent pool as expressed by various call center companies operating in the province.(EPN with reports from PNA)
