ZAMBOANGA City First District Representative Celso Lobregat moved to defer the Commission on Higher Education's (Ched) conduct of an ocular inspection on the facilities of the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC).
Ched and the House Committee on Higher Education are set to conduct the inspection between May 5 and 9, to determine if ZCSPC have complied with the basic requirements for it to be converted to a university.
Lobregat authored a bill in Congress that seeks the conversion of ZCSPC into Zamboanga City State Polytechnic University.
The bill was approved on first reading on March 6 and was referred to the Committee on Higher and Technical Education.
Among the requirements the ZCSPC have not yet complied are: minimum of three graduate programs, Master’s degree requirements for faculty members, and improvement of the school’s research and library facilities.
“It has not yet fully complied with the requirements [for its conversion],” Lobregat said.
The lawmaker called on the administration of the ZCSPC to comply with the requirements immediately. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
