Licomo village chief shot dead

A VILLAGE chief who was drinking with his buddies in Barangay Licomo, Zamboanga City, was shot to death Friday night by a gunman riding a motorcycle, the police reported on Saturday.

Police Station 1 Chief Inspector Salvador Galvez identified the victim as Eduardo Caloyloy, 52, barangay captain (village chief) Licomo.

Galvez said Caloyloy was shot to death around 7:30 p.m. Friday in front of a store in the said village.

Police investigation showed that Caloyloy was having a drinking session together with his three friends at the store near the village hall when an unidentified gunman riding a motorcycle stopped in front of the store and shot the victim.

The police said the shooter and his accomplice who served as a lookout fled after the crime.

Galvez said the police are now investigating the killing of Caloyloy, who had just reported back to his official work last month after being suspended for three months on charges for illegal drug use.

The suspension stemmed from an administrative complaint filed against Caloyloy after he tested positive for illegal drug use during a random drug test. (SunStar Philippines)
