Ma of 9 kids falls in drug bust; P1.5M worth of shabu seized

SOME P1.5 million worth of illegal drugs were confiscated by police during a buy-bust in Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City late Thursday night.

Arrested were Meriam Ampaso, 39, who is in the police watch list of suspected drug personalities, and her alleged cohort Jeffrey Casil, 28.

The City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (Caidsotg) of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO), in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, conducted the operation at 11:30 p.m.

A police poseur buyer bought a medium pack of shabu worth P8,000 from Ampaso, a single mother with nine children.

When the transaction was consummated, the anti-drug operatives caught Ampaso, a native of Salvador, Lanao Del Norte, and Casil, a resident of Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City.

Seized from them were one large pack and five medium packs of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu with an estimated value of P1.5 million, said Senior Insp. Verniño Noserale of Caidsotg.

About P3,500 believed to be drug proceeds and assorted drug-sniffing paraphernalia were also recovered from their possession.

Interviewed today inside her detention cell, Ampaso refused to issue a statement on her arrest and instead told reporters that her lawyer will answer all the allegations.

Complaints for violating Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them before Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor's Office.
