Maxine Medina relishes Binibing Pilipinas experience

MANILA -- As she's about to pass on the crown, Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina recalled her "best journey" representing the country in the international beauty competition.

Hours before the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 grand coronation night slated on Sunday evening, April 30, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Medina expressed her gratitude for all the blessings she received for the past year.

She said she will miss her title and will never forget the support and love she received from the Filipinos when it was her time to compete in the 65th Miss Universe pageant.

"I will always remember this day when all my fellow Filipinos support and cheer for the country. In ups and downs, the cheer I hear from you my kababayans had made me the best version of what I've showed you on that stage," Medina wrote in her official Instagram account.

The 26-year-old added that joining the pageant was a good way of showing everyone the strength and beauty of Filipinas.

She said she will treasure the memories and experience forever.

"It was indeed an amazing step to showcase the strength of us women that we can rise above everything."

I will be missing this sash on me! See you all tonight at the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 coronation night.

As to her successor, Medina told the candidates that they can be anything and can do everything.

"To all the 40 candidates, this is your chance to give it all. Take pride and have faith in how far you can go. The best advice? SMILE SMILE AND SMILE."

Medina was crowned locally as Miss Universe Philippines 2016.

She then went on to represented the country during the 65th Miss Universe pageant held last January at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

She finished in the Top 6 while Miss France Iris Mitteraene was crowned Miss Universe. (SunStar Philippines)
