Negros Occidental cop posts bail

POLICE Officer 3 Jose Michael Muñez of La Castellana Municipal Police Station posted bail last April 28, a day after he was charged for homicide for killing a young man in the town last April 26.

Chief Inspector Gary Alan Resuma, town police chief, said Muñez, assigned as assistant traffic investigator, was released from police custody Friday afternoon.

Muñez shot to death 20-year-old Jered Labiga after the victim reacted to the policeman, who was looking at him and his younger brother Joed upon their arrival at a vulcanizing shop.

Despite Muñez’s criminal case, he is still reporting to the police station but has been restricted from his duties, Resuma said.

He added that the administrative case against Muñez has yet to be filed, pending the investigation of the Police Regional Office-18.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to file attempted homicide charges against Joed Labiga, who was with his elder brother when the incident happened.
