8,700 jobseekers ‘near-hires’ in Central Luzon job fairs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Some 8,713 jobseekers were reported “near-hires” in the region-wide job and business fairs in Central Luzon, the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) announced Monday, May 1.

Preliminary reports from the Technical Support and Service Division (TSSD) and Dole Field Offices show that around 7,464 jobseekers flocked to all seven job and business fairs in the region.

Dole Regional Director Ana Dione reported to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III that the region-wide job and business fairs had a successful turnout on its near-hires.

“Near-hires are job applicants who were considered hired but still need to submit additional or lacking requirements, or may need to attend further interviews or tests and exams,” Dione explained.

Dione also noted that the overlap of near-hires versus the number of attendance of jobseekers means that some of them were reported near-hires in more than one company.

Technical Support and Service Division for Employment and Welfare head Alejandro Inza Cruz said that the near-hires are expected to add-up in the days to come.

“We will be having our usual month-long monitoring of our “near-hires” and those subjected for interview from reports submitted by our job and business fair employer-participants and we are hopeful that these applicants would eventually be hired and land jobs,” Inza Cruz explained.

Dione said that the region-wide job and business fairs adopted the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Concept forged by the Dole and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

“The TNK concept aims to achieve full employment and creation of jobs in Key Employment Generators (KEGs) specifically in the manufacturing, agri-business, construction, tourism, IT-BPM, transportation and logistics, and retail and trade,” Dione explained.

“The job and business fairs are expected to increase rate in applicants hired in KEGS during the job fairs, apprise and advocate job seekers to consider entrepreneurial and business opportunities, and build strong partnerships among concerned agencies such as the Dole, DTI, local government units, and stakeholders from the private sector,” she added.

For their part, the DTI provided a lecture on business opportunities for jobseekers and OFWs who wish to venture into entrepreneurship and small businesses.

Aside from this, the National Reintegration Center for OFWs or NRCO provided teaching kits for OFW teachers under the “Sa Pinas, Ikaw ang Ma’am Sir Program.”

Dione commended and thanked the DOLE’s program partners for their continued support in this year’s Labor Day job and business fairs.

“We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the presence and support of our program partners in today’s region wide Labor Day job and business fairs here in the region. Once again, our strong convergence has made it easier, convenient, and inexpensive for our jobseekers to look and aspire for the jobs they are vying for,” Dione said.

“We are likewise thankful to our partners from the different Local Government Units through their Public Employment Service Offices, National Government Agencies, ABS-CBN Pampanga, and other Local Media Partners, and other sponsors, participating employers and recruitment agencies, and most importantly, our jobseekers, who have patiently waited and endured hunting for jobs,” she furthered.

Dione also commended and thanked SM Supermalls for once again providing convenient and conducive venues for the holding of the job and business fairs.

The region wide Labor Day job and business fairs today were held at SM City Malls—Baliuag, Bulacan; Pampanga, San Fernando Downtown, and Clark in Pampanga.

Other Labor Day job and business fairs were held at the Freedom Park in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, Metro Town Mall, Tarlac City, and Ayala Harbor Point, Ologapo City.

Another fair will also be held on May 5 at the Vista Mall in Balanga City, Bataan.

This year’s region-wide job and business fairs highlight this year’s main Labor Day festivities in the region with its theme “Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho, Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago.” (PR)
