Dabawenyo 2nd in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu championships

BRAZILIAN jiu-jitsu artist Jan Hao of Davao City secured a silver medal and a bronze in the recent Japanese National Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Sumida in Tokyo, Japan recently.

Hao, 30, played for Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu International and won his first match against a Japanese rival via clock choke to arrange a titular showdown against Korean Mingyon Kwon in the -76 kilogram.

Hao lost to Kwon via arrow chokes submission in the finals.

In the open category, Hao subdued American opponent in the eliminations but succumbed to rival Kwon who won via arrow choke in the semifinals.

"Pumunta lang kami for vacation pero nung nalaman ko na na-extend ang deadline for registration, sumali nalang ako," Hao, in a recent interview with SunStar Davao at the Dojo + Kitchnn.

While preparing for the upcoming Dumao Tournament slated this June in Cebu City, Hao said he will continue training to build his confidence as he also set his sight on the upcoming World Championships next year.

The purple-belt Hao also clinched the -76kg category gold medal in the Korea Seoul International Championships on top of a silver finish in no gi competition and a bronze in open category. (ABM)
