Yanson eyeing future Azkals from Nofa grassroots tourney

FOOTBALL has been consistently growing in Negros Occidental.

On its second year, the Negros Occidental Football Association 2017 Nofa 12 and Under Invitational Cup are expected to bring the best players in the age-group.

“Our purpose here is to develop players who will soon be the next Azkals. Moreover, we are trying to reach out to other provinces to be part of this program,” Nofa president Ricky Yanson said.

This year, 18 teams from across the country have converged in Negros Occidental for this five-day event.

“Despite some prior problems, everything is well. These conflicts were due to the simultaneous schedules of Palarong Pambansa, National Prisaa and Panaad sa Negros,” he added

Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel Verdeflor relayed Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.’s message to the participants that young players like them should be given the opportunity to display their abilities in football.

“You are still young and it will come to pass. Play hard not rough. You have to be discipline yourself and further enhance your mastery in this sport,” he added.

Yanson reminded the coaches to enjoy, gain friends and develop camaraderie. “Winning is just secondary,” he added.

In Thursday’s matches in Bracket A, Don Bosco-Cebu demolished San Carlos City Football Club (FC), 6-1; IPagasa FC dumped Claret FC, 4-1; and Zandifa blanked Bayawan City FC, 2-0.
