Skin tips for summer

CONSIDERING the extra hot temperature these days, it is important that we protect our skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Of course, we do not want to get so dark, but more importantly, we do not want to damage our skin.

In the past, sunblock seemed to be the only popular product we used when we were about to enjoy the sun. Today, a number of brands have also popularized after-sun gel, cream, spray or lotion to further protect our skin.

According to several studies, sunscreen protection is important to help prevent skin cancer.

Cancer.net gave out some tips on how to protect ourselves from the extreme heat of the sun.

Make sunscreen application a daily regimen. It was even emphasized that even if it is cloudy, we should still not forget to apply sunblock.

Use sunscreen with sun protect factor (SPF) of at least 30, and this must be applied every two hours, or every hour if we are swimming or sweating.

Pick sunscreen brands that protect the skin both from ultra violet A (UVA) and ultra violet B (UVB). UVA is known as the long wave-length that can penetrate several layers of the skin, while UVB is categorized as medium and can penetrate just the superficial layers of the body's covering.

Always take note that the sun is at its harshest between 10 a.m. and 4 P.M. Therefore, we must limit our exposure during this period.

Use sunglasses with 99 to 100 percent UV protection to protect your eyes, and a cap or hat to protect the entire face.

Wear long sleeves, long pants or clothes that are made of sun-protective materials.

Personally, aside from trying to get a beach-ready body, which I hope I will achieve before summer is officially over, I also grabbed some sunscreen products for myself the last time I visited Watsons.

Belo and Kojie San offer sunscreens that protect our skin from a broad spectrum of ultra violet. The difference, though, lies on the SPF. The former boasts of SPF 60, while the latter has 50.

I also got myself their after-sun protection, which helps soothe those areas of the skin that were overexposed to the harmful rays of the sun.

So far, I have been satisfied with these brands, especially that they are not sticky on the skin once applied. By the way, Belo is in gel form, while Kojie.san is in spray.

Go out in the sun now and never be afraid of skin damage with these products.
