Woman tries to sneak ‘shabu’ in Davao jail, sued

A WOMAN is charged with violation Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 after she was caught trying to sneak in illegal drugs to the City Jail in Maa last month.

In a resolution, prosecutor Faizal Padate found probable cause to charge Maria Perpetua Cañete Occeña based on the complaint filed by Jail Officer 1 Nichelle Borja of the City Jail.

The incident happened on April 22 when Occeña was about to visit a relative inside the Davao City Jail. As a standard operating procedure, Borja frisked Occeña and that was when the officer allegedly found the illegal drugs from her possession.

Recovered was one sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu.”

The accused was then arrested while the seized substance was submitted to Police Crime Laboratory for examination and it tested positive for “shabu.” The urine sample of the accused tested negative based on the chemistry report.

But Padate said the accused is still held liable for the charges filed against her based on the complaint and evidences presented. He added that the arrest of the accused is valid.
