UP mountaineers to hold RFT 2017

THE University of the Philippines Baguio Mountaineers (UPBM), a non-profit campus-based organization that aims to spread environmental consciousness, invited interested runners and outdoor enthusiasts to join the annual advocacy run dubbed “Run for Trails” (RFT) 2017 on May 14.

With the theme, “Run for Mother Nature,” the event aims to introduce trail running alternative sites to the public and to serve as a platform for environmental advocacy.

Now on its 14th year, RFT offers 3K, 6K (3 members), and 12K. The 6K team category is the newest installation of the run where each must consist three runners with at least one female. The time of the team will be the time of the last member to finish with the fastest time wins.

Assembly of participants is at 6 a.m. with the first gun start is at 6:30 a.m.

Before the run, there will be a briefing on the same day to be held at Scout Barrio field.

A cut–off of 50 runners will be imposed for the 3K category, 60 runners for the 12K category, and only 15 teams for the 6K team event. The run will cover most of Camp John Hay’s major trails.

Registration fee for the 3K category is P300 and P400 for the 12K division. The 6K event will have a registration of P1,000 per team.

All registration fees will be inclusive of the event shirt, race bib, and a light breakfast.

Attendance and number of participants may be confirmed at the RFT registration booth located at University of the Philippines Baguio that is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Interested participants may also contact UPBM members, Lloyd Alvarez (09178360408) or Nam Desembrana (09273415343).

Organizers reminded participants that RFT is not a race but an advocacy run. However, there will be prizes waiting for the top three male, female, and teams that will cross the finish line.
