MISAMIS ORIENTAL Board Member Gerardo Sabal III on Wednesday, May 10, said the provincial police director has yet to appear before the committee on peace and order to shed light on the spate of drug-related killings in the province, including those perpetrated by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen.
Sabal said Senior Superintendent Manuel Sukarno Alvarez will appear before the committee on the fourth week of this month.
In the resumption of the police's drug operations last March, three suspected drug personalities were killed in Villanueva and Naawan towns and two more were shot dead by unknown suspects in Tagoloan.
Sabal also said they have yet to decide whether to summon the families of the slain drug suspects to hear their sentiments.
There have been reports that families of the killed drug personalities do not believe that suspects fought back to authorities.
Sabal said he would ask data and further information from the police before deciding whether the families of the drug suspects are invited.
“I need the data and information from the police first then we will see kung kinahanglan (if its needed),” Sabal said.
Governor Yevgeny Emano, meanwhile, reiterated his warning against capitol workers, who engage in illegal drug activities as he said he will continue his regular program of subjecting employees in random drug tests.
Emano said one way to catch erring employees, who are involved in the illegal drug activities is through the unannounced drug tests.
In the Civil Service Commission resolution promulgated March 15, the commission sets the guidelines in the mandatory drug test for public officials and employees.
The guidelines aim to ensure that government agencies remain drug free by subjecting public officials and employees to a random mandatory drug test, as a condition for continuous employment and ensure effective and efficient service from the hazards of drug use in the work place.
Emano said workers, who will be tested positive for drug use will be terminated.
