LA TRINIDAD -- Benguet’s capital town recently approve an ordinance “Institutionalizing the Annual Search for Barangay Tanod Exemplary Award in the Municipality” acknowledging exemplary achievements of village watchmen.
The ordinance creates a Barangay Tanod Awards Screening Committee, wherein the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO) will be the chairperson and the Liga ng mga Barangay president will be the vice chairperson.
Members includes the town council’s chair on committee on peace and order, Municipal Chief of Police, Community Affairs Officer, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer, one non-government organization (NGO) representative, PLEB representative and the barangay council chair on committee on peace and order.
Different award categories will be up for grabs in the annual search.
Nominees must have served a minimum of two to three years as barangay tanod.
Each barangay peace and order council must nominate among any accredited or recognized NGO or Civil Society Organizations existing in the barangay while nominees should present duly documented accomplishments.
The nominee will be confirmed by the barangay council to be the official representative of the barangay.
Model Barangay Tanod Unit will receive a plaque plus P30,000 cash while the Best Barangay Tanod will get a plaque and P10,000.
In addition, appropriate funds will also be incorporated under the Annual Budget of the Municipal Peace and Order Council.
The program for the awarding ceremony will be incorporated and be included as a part of the La Trinidad Foundation Day Celebration of the municipality.
“This ordinance will go through the office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) and if this ordinance approves, then it will be implemented next year,” Councilor Teddy Quintos closed. (Justine Mae Jimenez, Colegio de Dagupan Intern/SunStar Philippines)
