Duterte to have ‘private time’ in Hong Kong

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will spend some "private time" on the first day of his two-day official visit in Hong Kong, Malacañang said Friday.

"Today, it will be a private time for him," Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella told a press conference in Hong Kong.

Duterte arrived in Hong Kong Thursday night for a two-day working visit, after his participation in the World Economic Forum on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The President was expected to arrive at the Hong Kong International Airport early Friday morning but his plane landed at 10:49 p.m. of Thursday.

Duterte was with his common-law wife, Cielito “Honeylet” Avanceña, and daughter, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte.

On Saturday, the Chief Executive will meet the Filipino community working and residing in the special administrative region. Data from the Philippine government showed that there are about 210,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong.

In his departure speech delivered Wednesday in Pasay City, Duterte said he would take the opportunity to relay the programs and policies he set out for the common good of the Filipino people.

"Our OFWs are our key partners n national development. I will meet them in Hong Kong to let them know – like I let you know – what your government is doing for you and what you can do to become even more productive partners for positive change in our country,” Duterte said.

From Hong Kong, the President will proceed to Beijing, China to attend the Belt and Road Forum from May 15 to 16. (SunStar Philippines)
