Arroyo to seek re-election

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Incumbent Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will seek re-election in the 2016 polls despite her hospital arrest and reported deteriorating condition.

Lawyer Raul Lambino, a member of Arroyo's legal team, disclosed during the recent Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. general membership meeting here which he graced, that the former President wishes to continue serving her constituents in Porac, Floridablanca, Guagua, Sta. Rita, Sasmuan and her hometown Lubao despite her condition and situation.

"Yes. Mrs. Arroyo will seek re-election kahit na hindi gumaganda ang kalagayan niya. Anyway, even under hospital arrest, the former President continues to work and look after the welfare of her cabalens in the Second District and Pampanga as a whole," Lambino told Sun.Star Pampanga.

He stressed that putting Arroyo under house arrest will greatly help in improving her condition.

"It is already her colleagues in the House of Representatives, through a resolution, who are pushing that Mrs. Arroyo be put under house arrest instead of continuing to confine her in the hospital. Time and again, her doctors have suggested that bringing her home in the company of her love ones will greatly help in improving her condition," said Lambino.

"Either her residence in La Vista in Quezon City or her home in Lubao, Pampanga will do. It will be up to the Sandiganbayan to decide on that which we pray would be granted. In any case, Mrs. Arroyo is not a threat to the security of anyone," he said.

Lambino furthered that it is a "positive indication" that the Sandiganbayan First Division is keeping "an open mind" on the motion for house arrest after it asked for her latest medical bulletin as well as details of the residences in La Vista Subdivision in Quezon City and in San Nicolas Subdivision in Lubao town.

"Let us just keep praying for her and for the motion to be granted," said Lambino.

Arroyo has undergone three spinal surgeries and has yet to fully recover from her other illnesses, according to her doctors.

She has been under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City since December 2012. (JTD/Sun.Star Pampanga)
