After 6 months in office, Duterte's net worth up by P3M

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte's net worth has increased by over P3 million in the first six months that he has been president, according to his latest statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

When he became president in June 2016, Duterte's net worth was only P24.08 million. Currently, the President's net worth is P27.4 million.

The latest SALN was released by the Office of the Ombudsman.

The increase in the Duterte's net worth has been attributed to the P3-million surge on his cash on hand or in the bank. It was declared under his personal properties, which valued at P18,453,862.44 in December 2016, from P15,305,094.04 in June 2016.

Duterte's total assets, the total value of his real and personal properties, amounted to P28,428,862.44. His net worth increased to P27,428,862.44 due to his P1 million personal loan from one Samuel Uy.

The President barely purchased additional real properties during his first six months as president, as the cost was retained at 4.485 million.

For his real properties, Duterte declared eight residential lots purchased in 1996, 1997, 1999, and 2005; four houses and lots acquired in 1998, 2007, 2008, and 2015; and agricultural lands bought in 2008 and 2014.

All the real properties were purchased in Davao City.

There was only a slight increase of P100,000 from his personal properties and investments from P4.2 million posted in June 2016.

Duterte declared his Volks Sedan purchased in 1978 at P40,000; and his Toyota Rav 4 acquired in 1998 amounting to P800,000.

The President's household appliances and furniture, as well as his jewelries, remained at P350,000 and P300,000, respectively. His investments was down by P900,000 from P3.9 million declared in June last year.

Since Duterte entered office, he lost interest as an incorporator of Honda Cars-General Santos City and Poeng Yue Foundation Inc.-Davao City. He used to be incorporator of the two companies since 1997 and 2012, respectively.

In his SALN, Duterte said, "I/We do not have any business interest or financial connection."

Duterte also listed seven relatives in government service, including his children, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte.

Also mentioned were daughter-in-law January Duterte, Davao City councilor; brother Benjamin Duterte, City Mayor's Office private secretary; nephew Wilfrido Billarica, Davao City Council administrative officer; Wilfrido's wife, Jean, auxiliary worker at Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office; and the mother of Sara's husband, Court of Appeals Associate Justice Agnes Reyes-Carpio.

Duterte signed his SALN on April 18 and was received by the Office of the Ombudsman on April 26, four days before the April 30 deadline for filing of SALNs. (SunStar Philippines)
