‘Hitman’ dies in Zamboanga Norte shootout

AN ALLEGED hitman was killed in a shootout during an entrapment operation in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Saturday.

Zamboanga del Norte police director Edwin Buenaventura Wagan identified the slain suspect as Anthony Cabilona, 29, a resident of Pangi, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Senior Superintendent Wagan said the shootout happened around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday in the village of Tigbao, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.

He said the shootout occurred after Cabilona opened fire upon sensing he was the target of the entrapment operation.

He said Police Officer 1 Bryan Galea was hit but was not wounded since he was wearing a bullet-proof vest at the time of the operation.

Cabilona said the policemen retaliated and killed the suspect.
