PHILIPPINE Institute of Civil Engineers (Pice) Davao Chapter offers assistance for Civil Engineers in the city who wants to apply as Association of Southeastern Asian Nations (Asean) engineers.
With the Asean integration causing greater influx of infrastructure investors within the Philippines and even other countries under the Asean, Pice Board of Director engineer Eddie Fuentes said it is important that Civil Engineers in the city improve their credentials.
Since 2008, opening for Asean engineer applications had been available although according to Fuentes, this was not much given attention by Civil Engineers. Out of the 700 Pice active members in the city, only around 280 are already accredited.
“When a civil engineer becomes an Asean engineer, it adds up to their credentials. If for example they are working with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), they can be considered at a higher position. It will also give them the pass to practice their field in the countries in the Asean,” said Fuentes.
He said, to be able to apply, engineer applicant must have at least seven years of experience, at least two years of this specifically involved in hands-on engineering, construction, and designing. Fuentes added it is not necessary that these seven years be spent in the Philippines alone, as long as it’s an experience of the applicant sharpening their engineering skills and knowledge.
“It would be a good time and chance to assist everyone who is interested to apply as Asean engineers. It’s a little difficult to practice abroad without accreditation. It is only possible thru a private company directly hiring you but with Asean engineer accreditation, it is much easier,” said Fuentes adding with the PICE Davao Chapter President engineer Cary Beatisula being in the Pice National Board of Directors, endorsements of Civil Engineers from Davao City will be possible.
“We will be the one to endorse the application submitted to us to the Pice National, to be further endorsed to Philippine Technological Council (PTC) for final approval,” he said.
