2 suspected drug pushers die in Naga shootout

TWO suspected drug pushers died in a shootout with the anti-narcotics operatives in Sitio Buli, Barangay Inayagan, Naga City, southern Cebu around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13.

The fatalities were identified as Gilbert Tapic and his cohort, a certain Welan.

Suspected junkies Christian Salinas, 19; Alvini Casnici, 18 and Reneboy Pardillo, 27, were caught in a room adjacent to Tapic's drug den.

Seized during the operation were eight packs of white crystals believed to be shabu.

Two .38 revolvers, an airsoft rifle, six empty shells, two empty shells of .9mm, an empty shell of .45, and a magazine with cartridge were also recovered by the operatives.

Naga City Drug Enforcement Unit personnnel carried out the operation, after they received information about Tapic's involvement in the shabu trade in the neighborhood.

The drug bust took place inside Tapic's mall room.

When the suspects reportedly noticed they were dealing with the police, they opened fire at the operatives.

Operatives retaliated and hit the suspects in different parts of their bodies.

Tapic and Welan were rushed to Minglanilla District Hospital, but the doctor declared them dead on arrival. (SunStar Cebu)
