'Pusher' nabbed, minor rescued in Lapu-Lapu drug bust

POLICE rescued a minor and arrested a suspected drug pusher in drug bust around 9 p.m., Monday, May 15, in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City.

Members of the Lapu-Lapu City police rescued a 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly used by the suspect, Guia Lastimado Sumagang, 50, in his illegal drug trade.

Seized from the suspect was 100.56 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” worth P592,292.

Lapu-Lapu City Police Intelligence Chief Mark Sucalit said they brought the girl to the social welfare office for counseling.

Sucalit said pushers use children because they know that minors are protected by the Republic Act (RA) 9344, also known as the Juvenile Justice Act of 2006.

Sumagang will face complaints for violating RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act. (SunStar Cebu)
