Sharon’s wellness venture

SHARON Mascarinas has just retired from her job in a large cement manufacturing company when she and the family took a vacation trip to Taiwan.

Her husband Jipjip Mascarinas handles a diverse range of businesses in Davao City from distribution of personal care and household products, a restaurant and recently buying and selling homes. Sharon was looking for a business which she could venture.

During their trip, they were introduced to a product which got them hooked. It was a line of essential oils made in the United States, which became popular in Taiwan.

Essential oils are natural volatile aromatic compounds found in seeds, bark, stems, leaves, flowers, roots and other parts of a plant. These essential oils give these plants their distinctive scents and aids in pollination.

In early times, man has used the plants’ essential oils for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices.

These essential oils have been used in the process of aromatherapy that is free from harmful chemical ingredients.

Sharon saw the benefits of the product and decided to become an investor, and committed to bring the company’s products to the Philippines. The company doTerra, which in Latin translates to “gift of the earth”, is a Utah-based firm founded in 2008, which created these therapeutic grade essential oils.

Sharon says doTerra’s line of essential oil fits into her advocacy for health and wellness. “It’s like bringing the practice of the past when we rely on the plants for our health and well-being.”

After a trip to Taiwan, Jipjip and Sharon went to Utah to see for themselves the company and how the essential oils are produced undergoing a distillation and expression (cold press) process which extracts the aromatic essential oils from the plants.

In November last year, Sharon started marketing the product here in Davao.

Jipjip, a skeptic at first about the product, says the essential oils have helped him get rid of annoying rhinitis.

“Many of our first clients attested the efficacy of these essential oils,” Sharon said. Among the clients include Davao VIPs and local celebrities.

Aside from aromatherapy, the oils can be ingested or used as topical as an all-around therapeutic care. DoTerra also has a wide array of products based on the organic essential oils.

Currently she is organizing events to help promote the product and also her wellness advocacy. On May 16 she will be holding an Aromatouch Technique workshop featuring doTerra’s essential oil guide. The event will be held at 2nd Floor SKS Interiors, Guerrero Street, Davao City 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. For details you can contact Sharon at 09175779488.
