THREE New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a clash with government troops in the outskirts of Davao City, a military official said Sunday.
Lieutenant Colonel Rodney Intal, commander of the Army’s 69th Infantry Battalion, said the fire fight broke out around 12:05 p.m. Sunday at Purok 7 in the village of Paradise Embac, Paquibato District, Davao City.
Intal said the clash ensued as the troops chanced upon the NPA rebels while verifying the reported presence and extortion activities of a group of unidentified gunmen in the village of Paradise Embac.
Intal said no one among the troops were either killed or wounded during the fire fight.
He said through the help of the residents in the area two of the three slain NPA rebels were identified as Randy Cornasa and Ruben Inlog.
He said the troops have also recovered two improvised explosive devices and backpacks the NPA rebels have abandoned.
Meanwhile, Captain Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) public information chief, said that so far 38 NPA rebels have been killed in clashes with the government forces in the Eastmincom area since January this year.
Caber said the troops have also recovered 72 high-powered firearms since January this year.
