Municipalities league members to replicate Lubao bamboo park

LUBAO -- Members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) are planning to replicate this town's Bamboo Hub Eco park in their respective municipalities.

In an interview during their visit at the Eco park, LMP Sulu President and Pata Island Mayor Anton Burahan described the place as pilot bamboo park in the country, one which should be replicated by other towns.

Burahan, who was in awe during his visit, said he'd never seen this kind of park in the country with well-maintained and very clean comfort rooms.

"I've been in Lubao before during the time of then Mayor and now Governor Lilia Pineda. And I was amazed by this park now. Ang ganda, ang galing ni Mayor Mylyn at Governor Pineda na makagawa ng isang ganito," Burahan said.

LMP Benguet president and Mankayan Mayor Materno Luspian said he will replicate the innovative way of planting bamboo instead of pine trees to prevent soil erosion in his area.

Luspian, whose municipality is known for pine trees, is eyeing to ready five hectares of land for his bamboo propagation.

"I'm trying to visualize in my municipality to replicate bamboo planting to prevent soil erosion. Visiting Lubao is an honor to see their best practice here particularly their MRF," Luspian added.

He also commended Lubao's material recovery facility (MRF), eyed to be a benchmark in his municipality.

Luspian, who also tried the fish spa in the park, enjoyed and described his experience as "therapeutic, holistic and very relaxing."

Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda Cayabyab said she is ready to share to her colleagues at the executive committee of the LMP the best practices of Lubao's solid waste management including its MRF.

The LMP has 70 to 80 members in the entire country with 25 executive committee member mayors.
