DTI: Enough school supplies for Baguio, Benguet

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) assured enough school supplies in Baguio City and Benguet for students, who will be entering school starting June 5 for school year 2017 to 2018.

Baguio-Benguet Provincial Director Freda Gawisan said there are enough school supplies despite thousands of students, who will be entering pre-school up to college.

“They may buy in different stores. There are many brands of products and prices also may vary depending on the brand and quality,” Gawisan said.

“Although stores have lots of supplies, we are encouraging the public to buy products with quality assurance in consideration also with the prices,” Gawisan said.

Suggested retail price for an 80 page notebook ranges from P11 to P31, ball pens ranges from P4 to P31.75, while an eight–piece box of crayons ranges from P8.75 to P21.75.

Gawisan also reminded store owners not to overprice their products and follow suggested retail price.

Consumers are also advised to report at the stores consumer’s desk when buying an overpriced product or with a low quality assurance for negotiation. When negotiation cannot be availed, then they may report to the DTI office for further action.

Currently, DTI personnel are monitoring stores selling school supplies to ensure they are following standards set by the agency.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan urged consumers to buy quality products as he narrated before his experience in buying a low quality pair of shoes.

“Do not buy those with low quality. Check the product wisely so that there will no regret in the end,” Domogan said.

Meanwhile, Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan of SM in partnership with DTI opened on May 22 at Baguio Convention Center (BCC), which will run until May 26.

SM assistant vice president Arnel Raymond Aguas said all their products like school supplies, raincoats, uniforms, bags, are displayed at the BCC which are all below the suggested retail price.

“This is open to the public and we are inviting them to avail of the discounted products here.”
