Village official wounded in Zambo Sibugay gun attack

MOTORCYCLE-RIDING gunmen have shot and wounded a village official in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the victim as Edgar Gonzales, a village councilor of Baga, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Galvez said that Gonzales, who works as a collector of the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative II (Zamsureco II), was shot and wounded around 9:15 a.m., Monday, May 22, along the national highway at Purok Javier in the village of Upper Pangi, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Investigation showed that Gonzales was driving a motorcycle on the way to the office Zamsureco II in the village of Pangi, Ipil, when shot by one of two men riding tandem in another motorcycle that tailed the victim.

Investigation further showed when the victim crashed on the pavement, the back rider disembarked and took the sling bag of Gonzales containing P150,000 and fled towards the diversion road of Ipil Municipality.

The victim was rushed to the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Hospital for treatment.

Investigation continues in a bid to unmask the identities and arrest the suspects, Galvez said. (SunStar Philippines)
