659 Mabalacat seniors get P1,500 pension each

MABALACAT CITY -- Some 659 senior citizens here have received P1,500 each as part of their social pension from the national government.

The granting of the benefits for the elderly was based on the Republic Act. No. 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003.

Under the law, underprivileged elders are entitled to receive P500 monthly pension every quarter of the year.

Seniors who are disabled, sickly, frail, no permanent source of income, and no regular support from anyone in the family may avail of the said program.

Engracia Dizon, Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (Osca) head, said that 550 seniors received P 1,500 for April to June and 109 have received P 3,000 for two quarters (January to June).

City Social Welfare and Develoment (CSWD) Officer IV Charlo Costales said that recipients are identified through the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR).

The NHTS-PR is a database of poor households who are potential beneficiaries of social protection programs of the government.

“Ang National Government pa rin ang nag-iidentify ng mga mabibigyan ng soc-pen dito sa Mabalacat City. Ang CSWD naman ag nagva-validate kung buhay pa ang mga identified seniors na ito,” Costales added.
