Golf and martial law in Davao

FIRST, an update. The golfing ladies in Davao are preparing for WGAP’s 2017 Champion Infinity Luzvimin Golf Tournament slated June 8 to 10. It will be held at Mimosa Golf in Clark, Pampanga. Good luck in advance, ladies!!!

Second, about martial law, YES, I know that the security situation is real. The threat is very real. And I trust President Rodrigo Duterte. If he thinks that the solution is martial law, then so be it. And I will be a good citizen and follow the rules.

Think of the security at the airport--all the airports around the world. Why do they have x-ray machines there? With those in place, don’t you feel safer riding a plane?

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. So, let us respect that. If you do not like Martial Law, fine. Comment all you want. If you find the security measures being applied now- too much, go ahead, comment, frown, and destroy your day.

If there is a mayor who is not happy and is not supportive of that law, oh well. Good luck to his constituents.

As for me, salamat po, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio for imposing strict rules. Kasi po, ayaw na ayaw ko na papasok dito sa Davao ang Isis and its die-hard supporters. Do what you must to continue to keep us safe po.

Reminding everyone of the recent bombing in Manchester, England during the Ariana Grande concert. And then, yesterday, in Indonesia’s capital, two bombings. The threat is not just in Mindanao. It is all over.

Blame, blame, blame whoever all you want. Are you blaming our president? All I know is that President Duterte is not responsible for the bombings in England and Indonesia.

So, would you prefer that Martial Law be limited to just Mindanao? We here in Davao feel much safer, or, well, most of us do. What about you, residents of Visayas and Luzon?

On the lighter side, how does martial law affect golf in Davao? I see posts on social media of friends attending store openings, eating out, and doing their usual routine during day 2 of Martial Law. I guess, golfers here are still playing golf.

One problem I can think of now, about golf and martial law, is that if there is a big tournament, and they apply the shotgun format, then that means “6 a.m. tee-off.” And “6 a.m. tee-off” means being there by 5:30 a.m. And “6 a.m. tee-off” also means traveling from house to golf course at an earlier time which—if there will be a curfew that will be imposed soon, it will be a problem.

Solution: Later tee-off time, 7 a.m.! And, earlier finish during Awards night. Whew! Problem solved.

About our golf bags. As you know, we can fit many items there, especially long ones. So, is it safe to say that the military or police have a right to check what’s inside? Agree? Did you watch the El Mariachi movie from long ago? It was not a guitar inside the guitar case.

The golf course, just like the mall, and just like any other establishment in the city…may be a target. So, be cautious. Common Sense, our mayor said. Self-explanatory.

Peace to all.
