Suspected arms dealer from Cebu nabbed in Bacolod

A RESIDENT of Cebu was arrested for dealing firearms by authorities during an entrapment operation at a mall parking area in Bacolod City on Thursday afternoon, May 25.

The suspect was identified as Alrem Richard Narte, 26, of Barangay Pulpugan, Consolacion, Cebu.

Narte sold three firearms to an undercover agent past 1 p.m. at the parking lot of Gaisano Grand Mall on Araneta Street in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City.

Police Officer 3 Arlan de Pedro, spokesperson of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Negros Island Region (CIDG-NIR), said the suspect transported the firearms, including two .45 caliber pistols and a KG 9 pistol machine worth about P48,000, to Bacolod from Danao City, Cebu through roll-on roll-off vessel.

Also recovered from the suspect were three magazines of .45 caliber pistol, a silencer, and the P500 marked money.

De Pedro said they placed the suspect under surveillance for three to four months.

The undercover agent, who dealt with him, introduced himself as a personnel of a security agency. He told the suspect he needs six .45 caliber pistols.

De Pedro said the suspect was being cautious in transacting with potential customers as it was already their fourth time to contact him.

The suspect, who is now in the custody of CIDG-NIR, will face charges for illegal possession of firearms.
