BI arrests Korean fugitive wanted for fraud

OFFICIALS of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested in its office in Dasmariñas, Cavite, a South Korean fugitive wanted in his country for fraud.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente disclosed that the subject, identified as Sa Duckhwan, was arrested on May 22 when he walked into the said BI office to request an extension of his tourist visa.

Upon seeing that Sa's name is under the bureau's watchlist, the head of the BI-Dasmariñas office, contacted the BI's fugitive search unit (FSU), which dispatched immediately a team to arrest the subject.

Morente said that just last month the Korean embassy informed the BI of Sa's pending cases in Korea due to his indictment for fraud charges.

Korean authorities said that Sa was involved in a voice phishing scam wherein he pretended to be a bank officer to solicit money for a pooled investment fund.

Morente said Sa will be deported to Seoul following the BI board of commissioners issuance of order for his summary deportation. (SunStar Philippines)
