Jaguar Badminton Academy (JBA) of Cadiz City came out with huge victory as they dominated eight of the 19 age-group categories in the just-concluded 2nd Sun Cellular National Juniors Badminton Tournament-Visayas Leg held at Pohang Badminton Center in Bacolod City.
The Cadiz City-based shuttlers ruled in the Girls Singles under-11 (U-11), Boys Singles U-13, Girls Singles U-13, Girls Doubles U-15, Boys Doubles U-17, Boys Singles U-19, and Boys Doubles U-19.
Reshane Marie Nicor defeated teammate Jainie Aloyan in the finals to capture the Girls U-11 title as Clarence Villaflor dominated Lui Franz Lomugdang of Trinity Christian School to win the Boys U11 crown.
JBA’s Katrina Mae Consing upset University of San Carlos-Cebu Warriors bet Chelsea Katrina Akiatan to emerge champion in the Girls U-13 division. Consing also teamed up with Sophia Betita to win the Girls Doubles U-15 title over St. Scholastica’s Academy duo of Alyx-Z Buenavista and Rianne Rosadia.
In the Boys Singles U-17, Cadiz' John Mark Valenzuela defeated USC Warriors’ Lyrden Laborte for the crown and teamed up with Clifford Nicor to dominate the Boys Doubles U-17 over Dumaguete’s Belle Ocay and Guilio Villegas.
The U-19 Boys Singles was an all-JBA showdown as 2015 Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Kerr Longno won over his brother Kenneth in the finals as their teammates Nicor and Kennith Caracena settled for runner-up honors.
Keer Longno and Nicor jointly ruled over their JBA teammates Kenneth Longno and Caracena in the U-19 Boys Doubles.
JBA also finished runners-up in Boys Singles U-11, Girls Singles U-13, Girls Singles U-15, Boys Doubles U-15, and Mixed Doubles U-17.
St. John’s Institute also hauled numerous awards in Brandan Anglo (BS U-11); Justin Anglo and Ellana Tan (XD U-15); and Tan alongside Mia Manguilimotan (GD U-17).
Other winners were Bacolod Tay Tung High Schools’ Yana Ysabel Chua (GSU-19), and the team of Cody Torres and Anne Lorraine Cario (XD U-17) as well as University of St. La Salle’s Brian Baisca and Diana Yulo for the Mixed Doubles U-19 as the latter teamed up with Catrina Osden for the Girls Doubles U-19.
JLTC and Bacolod City-hailed Katrina Togado won two titles in the Girls Singles U-15 and Girls Singles U-17 while USC Warriors’ Carl Bernard Bejasa triumphed in the Boys Singles U-15 and Boys Doubles U-15 after teaming up with James Villarante.
The champions will represent Visayas in the upcoming National Finals on September 26 and 27 in Cebu City.HGD
