DPS workers tested for drugs

SOME 250 employees and officials of the Department of Public Services (DPS) underwent a drug test yesterday, which was administered by the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap).

The workers together with DPS chief Roberto Cabarrubias and assistant department head John Paul Gelasque took the drug test at the 9th floor of City Hall.

Outgoing Cosap executive head Dr. Alice Utlang said that the job orders and casual employees who will be found positive of illegal drug use will be terminated from their jobs.

Regular employees, on the other hand, will be enrolled to Cosap’s We Care Program as outpatients, she said.

The We Care Program provides a three-month intervention and another two-month post-rehabilitation program for drug dependents. It now has close to 100 enrollees.

DPS is the sixth City Hall office whose employees underwent a surprise drug test by Cosap this year.
