Doctor indicted over illegal drugs

THE Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has indicted a doctor who was among of those arrested in a buy-bust in Cebu City last May 15.

Prosecutor Ernesto Narido Jr. found evidence to charge Dr. John Paul Camello, 37, with violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

“Said accused, with deliberate intent, and without being authorized by law, did knowingly visit a den...operated by Eduardo Hermogino,” reads the charge sheet.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 agents nabbed Camello and 10 other drug personalities in separate buy-busts in the villages of Mambaling, Talamban and Sta. Cruz.

PDEA seized from the suspects a total of 785 grams of suspected shabu worth P1.7 million.

Camello stepped out of jail after posting a bail.

PDEA information officer Leia Albiar said that Camello was caught visiting a drug den in Sta. Cruz.

Camello is a practicing medical doctor in Bohol. He graduated from a medical school in Cebu City in 2006.

Camello told reporters that he went to the drug den to visit a patient, whose identity he did not divulge.

The den’s alleged operator, Hermogino, was arrested along with other suspected junkies Aaron Lao, 39; Freola Eras, 43; Rommel Nabaluna, 46; and Jerome Señoron, 29.
