Pelayo: Bautista is Deputy GK-elect in Council 4278

SOME call it destiny. Some call it good timing. Others call it luck. I do believe it’s a combination of all of these plus of course the quality of the candidate that makes one to win an election. Just last week, The Knights of Columbus Holy Sepulchre Council here in Angeles City held another historical event as the knights of Council 04278 cast their votes to elect the next deputy Grand Knight.

Nominated for the position were Atty. Noel Flores, Mike Bautista and Jun Tolentino. Only Bautista was physically present during the election. Past Grand Knight Dan Dizon chaired the COMELEC after the Mass Communion and Breakfast Meeting on that third Sunday of May. Each Knight was given ballot with control number and the voting has been casted privately instead of the usual raising of hands.

When the last ballot has been casted, PGK Dan Dizon started to count the votes one-by-one. Right away, Sir Knight Mike Bautista took the early lead and never trailed. A total of 79 knights have voted. Bautista got 57 votes which is more than 70% while the equally qualified candidate Flores only acquired 19 votes (24%). The third nominee got 3 yays.

Bautista and I have been knighted at the same year and went up to 4th degree at the same time as well. He has exhibited his leadership and passion to serve the Holy Sepulchre council. With the full support of our Supremo, the incoming FN Ben Chua, there is no doubt that Baustista will accomplish his projects and activities for the council. After the election, he started his speech by saying he is proud to be part of the Knights of Columbus. But like our incoming Grand Knight Lawrence Lusung, they have big shoes to fill in. All those past Grand Knights including the outgoing WSK Vernon Ocampo did a great job in leading Council 04278.

At the end of the day, we are all brothers. In service to one, in service to all!
