Paolo Duterte defends Sara over ‘mini-dictator’ tag

DAVAO City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte defended Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio after she was branded as a “mini-dictator” for issuing guidelines in the city for the martial law implementation.

The vice mayor issued a statement Saturday and slammed the statement issued by the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and came to the defense of his sister by saying that what Duterte-Carpio did was out of political will to curb terrorism threats.

“You call her mini-dictator because she has no respect for you or to your dying cause as she refuses to be intimidated, harassed, or bullied by you, by the NPAs, and by your front organizations,” he said.

The vice mayor also said the communist group revealed that they are “painfully scrambling for sense, reason, and significance as it showed that the CPP, the NPA, and all organizations allied with it, are among the enemies of peace, the enemies of the government, and the enemies of the people.”

“Your recent order for the NPA to launch offensives against the government, while the Marawi crisis is raging, exposes your natural opportunistic tendencies to ally with the enemies of the state just for you to push forward your desire to overthrow the government and seize power. You can no longer cloak your real intentions with your usual sermon about patriotism, heart for the poor, and liberation from all that supposedly made the lives of the poor Filipinos unbearable,” he added.

He said the NPA calling Duterte-Carpio as a mini-dictator is an apparent attempt to gloss over their image as defender of freedom and the oppressed, adding that that what the NPAs do is just to exacerbate the misery of the poor and the oppressed.

“Every single time you detonate a bomb, attack an establishment, burn construction equipment, murder peasants and tribal leaders, abduct soldiers, or conduct extortion activities, you are denying the people the opportunity to dream, to work without fear, welcome and embrace development that truly liberate them from their miserable conditions,” he said.

He added that the NPA must stop pretending that they care.

“Tama na ang inyong pagpakaaroningnon. Kabalo na ang katawhan sa inyong tumong ug tinguha -- ug kana mao ang pagpadayon sa ilang kakabos hangtod sa hangtod. Nakabalo na ang katawhan nga kamo ang nagdala sa kagubot sa katilingban ug kamo ang ugat-hinungdan sa ilang kalisod sa kinabuhi (Stop pretending. The people already know about your objectives and that is to continue their poverty forever. People knew that you have brought trouble in the community and you are the root causes why they suffer from poverty),” he said.
