P720T worth of food packs sent to victims in Marawi

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has sent 20,000 food packs to clash victims in Marawi City.

The agency spent P720,000 for the food packs, at P360 per pack.

Leah Quintana, DSWD 7 information officer, said they’ve been ordered by their central office to pack more foods to be sent to Marawi City.

Quinatana said that private individuals or organizations that want to donate to the victims can directly contact the concerned local government units.

The DSWD accepted private donations during the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Cebu and Bohol on Oct. 15, 2013, and typhoon Yolanda on Nov. 8, 2013.

However, Quintana said that DSWD 7 Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre and Assistant Director Herminia Cabahug want to to focus on the agency’s production of food packs.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial Government will coordinate with Marawi City to discuss how it can send rice to the people affected by the firefight between government troops and members of the Maute group.

Gov. Hilario Davide III did not say how much rice they’re sending.
