A MEMBER of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a gun battle on Monday, May 29, with the government troops in Agusan del Sur with three high-powered firearms recovered.
In a report released by the 401st Brigade on Tuesday, May 30, two AK 47s and one M16 rifle were recovered in the encounter site after an hour-long firefight with the Army’s 3rd Special Forces Battalion at Sitio Goshen, Barangay New Tubigon, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur around 3:30 p.m.
Based on the resident’s accounts, there are other wounded NPA rebels who fled. No casualties were recorded on the military side.
“The remnants of the 20-man platoon of the NPAs scampered to different directions with some bringing with them their four more wounded companions as reported by the locals,” the statement read.
Also, found in the site were five backpacks with documents of high intelligence value.
The cadaver of the slain NPA guerilla was brought to Charlotte Funeral Homes in San Vicente of Sibagat for documentation by the Scene of the Crime Operations and identification by claimants.
Major General Benjamin Madrigal of the 4th Infantry Division congratulated the Special Forces for their “relentless tracking of the armed group who were reported earlier by the residents of the barangay that are already fed up feeding the bandits out of fear every time the group is in their area.” (JCR)
