Misamis Oriental opens DENR-funded building

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Northern Mindanao turned over a multi-purpose building worth some P3.2 million to boost one of Misamis Oriental's tourist destinations, the Lasang Nature Park in the municipality of Initao.

Provincial Tourism Officer Yvonne Waga said the new building can be used for seminars and conferences.

“This is a perfect venue for conferences, meetings and seminars especially that the DENR is also building a hostel across the sea scape inside the park in case of overnight stay for seminars and conferences that are near our airport, but far from noise and air pollution ug heavy traffic,” Waga said.

She said the project is Governor Yevgeny Emano's dream of a complete facility for tourists.

The 1.5 hectare Lasang Nature Park has facilities to accommodate tourists.

She said this will be a big help for the province's tourism industry, Emano's flagship program.

Board Member Gerardo Sabal said the province sees the need to complete the facility to maximize the potential of the park and for people to appreciate the wonders of a virgin forest.

“This is a coordinated effort between Local Government Unit (LGU) and Government Agency. This is just a beginning of the tie-up work between these two government agencies,” Sabal added.

He also said the project promotes the protection of the environment and encourages the young generation to help preserve the gift of nature to the humanity.

Developed by the Misamis Oriental Provincial Government in the late 2000s, the P3 million eco-tourism site contains a 100-meter treetop boardwalk with an 80-foot spiral staircase, five hanging bridges, and a 120-meter zipline.

It also contains an adventure trek providing access to the different caves and other areas around the coastal park.

Campsites, picnic tables, barbecue pits, restrooms and open cottages with view decks are also provided inside the park.
